Trigger Pull: Exactly what you would expect from a true single-action 1911 styled pistol. It has a short take-up and a light and crisp pull and release. Because of the similar mechanics like the trigger but also the other aspects of this gun, it would make a truly awesome low cost trainer to be used when your real 1911 is not practical and also to save on the high cost of real .45 shells.

Accuracy: I shot the Colt Commander at a target from 30 feet away in a semi-rested position, and it performed well. I got an 8 shot 1.5 inch grouping, very close to the bullseye that extended a little larger with three additional rounds that came outside the smaller 8 shot grouping. The sights are non-adjustable even though they look like they are, so it was nice to see that this BB pistol was already dialled in pretty good! My initial chrony testing puts this gun right in the 300-325 FPS range, getting a 5 shot average of 306 FPS which is just fine for this style of heavy full realistic blowback action BB shooter. The outside temperature was 22°C (72°F) so the Colt Commander should shoot quicker on a warmer day. You can expect to get three good magazines worth of shots with some extra CO2 leftover for a potential 4th magazine. If you slow your shooting down and let the gun and CO2 warm up between magazines you can get 4 mags with this BB gun for sure.

Build Quality: Like other KWC 1911s, the Umarex Colt Commander is, overall, a well-built and mechanically sound BB pistol. Tolerances are good and the finish may even be better than what KWC makes for their own non-licensed versions of this very popular 1911 series.

Realism: The Umarex Colt Commander BB Pistol is as close as you can get to a real steel 1911 styled .45 semi-auto, but with a slightly modern tactical look to it. The Colt Commander version has the addition of a Tac-style trigger, hammer, and upgraded white dot sights. This gun is nearly all metal with very heavy blowback action that simulates the more sluggish and delayed blowback of a real steel 1911. And the true 1911 single action trigger will not disappoint you either.

Pros:

  • All metal construction gives good weight for a solid feeling gun
  • Heavy blowback action that simulates shooting a 1911 very well
  • Accurate 1911 replica in terms of looks and mechanical aspects
  • Excellently true 1911 single action trigger with smooth and light pull
  • Working safety and grip safety
  • Decent accuracy, good amount of shots for this style of gun at about 3+ good magazines
  • All metal full size dropout magazine that holds the BBs and CO2
  • Nice addition of some tactical features (Tac-style trigger and hammer, white dot sights)
  • Chrome coated barrel and breach not only look nice but wears better

Cons:

  • Sacrificed FPS and shots per CO2 because of the heavy blowback but worth it
  • Not a big fan of the white "S&F" on the safety or the white warning instructions on the slide

Comments: Sure, the Umarex Colt Commander is yet another KWC-made 1911 but Umarex has really captured the classic 1911 style without taking it too far into the tactical realm. The addition of the modernized white dot sights, along with the machined trigger and hammer and the chrome barrel and breach give this blowback 1911 a well-balanced look. If you're looking for a traditional 1911 A1 but with a few modernized tweaks, then check out the Umarex Colt Commander.

Excellence I have come to expect

I was not disappointed -- as with most KWC designs, this one is solid and fun. Full blowback, nice sights, a simple mag design that works. I've only put a few hundred shots through this so I can't speak to durability, butI've no reason to expect problems so far. It's a gas hog of course, running that full stroke blowback, and it shoots a little low and left but you'll still hit a can if you aim dead centre. Fun, pretty, and a little novel for my 1911 collection (hammer and trigger design are unusual and I LOVE that there's no disfiguring attachment rail under the barrel -- the 1911 silhouette is too iconic to ruin that way!) The fact that it is pretty inexpensive is a definite bonus. I got what I expected (and I had high expectations) and I didn't pay much for it.

Not worth it so far

This is a good looking gun. But there it stops. I had it one day. Got 3 shots then it jammed. The magazine release wouldn't work and the on safe would not work unless the hammer was cocked, which felt all wrong. Non of my other guns have had this trouble. So far its not worth the money. Also the manual is bare minimal. Not happy with this purchase.

Another KWC, but with some interesting quirks

Disclaimer: I've only shot 100 or so rounds through this particular gun, but I've owned and fired countless rounds through technically identical KWC 1911 versions in the past (the standard M1911A1 and the A1 TAC) 1) It's technically a KWC 1911. Everyone already knows about it and how it performs and this Commander is no exception. If you're new to it, just check out Replica Airguns' videos about it. 2) The best way to describe this gun is that it's basically the standard WWII-styled KWC 1911 with parts from the more modern A1 Tac version, and then painted in a more durable finish than either aforementioned variants and then given Umarex/Colt trademarks. The Commander uses parts from both guns, but paints and marks them differently. The slide and frame are of the standard style KWC 1911, but with dovetails on the slide for the modern sights. The grip safety, mainspring housing, and safety are also of the standard style. The trigger and hammer from the modern style KWC 1911. The barrel has a unique, shiny metallic nickel finish that can't be found in other KWC 1911s and the rest of the gun is painted in a durable black coat that is somewhat similar to the A1 TAC but rougher. The grips are also unique - they are like the standard version, but black and with a less coarse checkering. 3) As others may have pointed out, the real Colt Commander is a 1911 variant with a 4.25" barrel rather than the full-sized, standard 5.03" barrel of this KWC replica. That takes away from the realism, but the trademarks and other markings can easily be painted over. My plan is to order and install more A1 TAC parts, refinish/repaint this gun, add custom laser engravings, and 3D-print a new magazine base to make this gun a USMC Springfield MEU(SOC) 1911 replica. My needs are quite unique, so if you're just getting this gun for recreational use, you can't go wrong with the Commander. For the price, this is the best way to get the KWC 1911 with CO2 blowback that so many airgunners know and enjoy. As always, my order was sent out by Replica Airguns in a very timely manner and everything arrived in good form as expected.

Worth the buy

Snappy blowback, roughly 3 - 5 magazines per co2 can. It has full blowback so the slide goes back all the way and it stay back after the last shot.

They don't last long

I bought 2 of these and one remmington 1911. They didn't last more than a few months each (approx 2 x gas used per day). Constantly jamming, gas leaking, pin fell out and spring disappeared, things like that. I managed to build one working gun from all the parts that worked from the 3 guns and now I just use once per month for a few shots.

Colt Commander 1911

Really cool 1911 pistol equally as good as the Tanfoglio Witness 1911 as far as the realism goes & the blow back action & accuracy....

Best GBB .177 Pistol *OVERALL*

Best value on the market! It's full metal and weighs the same as the .45 version. If you like intense blowback then I suggest using Crossman CO2s with this pistol. If you're like me and hate reloading, I highly suggest the extended magazine. It's super reliable and is also cheap/easy to repair. I've shot 5000+ rounds before I had any type of failure or malfunction. The valve knocker was worn down so when the hammer dropped the gun wouldn't actually fire. I ordered the Elite Force airsoft 1911 hammer rebuild kit for like $15 and it worked perfectly again for another 2500+ shots before the nozzle finally gave out. I emailed Elite Force asking if the 6mm and 4.5mm versions use the same nozzles, so if they say yes then I can get it shooting again.

Sorry for the slang: Yoooooooooo!!!! Amazing

I mean, I'm not the review type of guy but this time around I had to. I was skeptic about it, 'cause of my collections of Glocks, S&W and Berettas, so I said let me get it just to add. Yo!!! Incredible, the feeling (all metal), the replica, the ACCURACY very accurate 1 to 1.5 inch groups (dead center at 25 feet). I would highly recommend it for the bb amateur. Thanks Replica Airguns.

Really Great Gun

This is my 3rd 1911 model BB gun that I've bought. Really nice feel and mechanics to this pistol. My mag sometimes sticks when I try to eject is but I think it simply needs to be worked in a bit more. The only real downside is the packaging. They have it sealed up tighter than a medieval chastity belt. Actually scratched the trigger guard up trying to open it. Luckily I like my guns a bit worn and used looking. If you are looking for a 1911 BB gun this one is more than worth the price. It arrived early too! Just be careful when opening the packaging.

This Field Test Shooting video is not going to have any big surprises but even so I really like shooting these KWC made CO2 Blowback BB 1911 Replicas and the Umarex Colt Commander is no exception. So let's get right to the test results! I started off by shooting 5 rounds through my Chronograph using a brand new CO2 with Umarex 5.1 grain zinc coated 4.5 mm Steel BB's. My 5 shot average velocity was 306 fps and the temperature on this day was fairly average at 22 Celsius (72 Fahrenheit). So on a warmer day you can expect to get a bit higher fps out of the Umarex Colt Commander CO2 Blowback 4.5mm BB Pistol.
