Customer Reviews for Baikal Blued Makarov CO2 BB gun

Brand: Baikal

Type: BB air pistol
Manufacturer: Baikal
Model: MP-654K
Materials: Weapons grade steel slide, frame and most parts
Weight: 1.7 pounds
Barrel: 3.8 inches, metal-rifled
Propulsion: CO2 x 1
Action: Semi auto, double and single action
Ammunition Type: Steel/Lead BBs 4.5mm
Ammunition Capacity: 13 rounds
FPS: 380

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the 2013 Blued Baikal Makarov MP-654K CO2 BB Pistol is good in single action mode (When cocked), when shooting in double action mode it is a bit heavy but it seems like over time the gun is working its self in a bit as the metal is hard and as with many Russian made guns, they need some break in period. The trigger springs are heavy so don't expect light trigger pulls.

Accuracy: The accuracy and true feet per second performance will be tested when I do my future Field Test Shooting review.

Build Quality: Excellent, the Baikal Makarov MP-654K CO2 BB Pistol is made side by side using the same machine sand same materials as the original Makarov PM (9x18) firearm that it is Replica of. There simply is not another airgun made to this quality level or that is as accurate a replica of its real steel version.

Realism: You simply cannot get any closer to how close this gun resembles the original Makarov PM (9x18). You can even field strip this gun exactly like the original. The only acceptation is when it comes time to fire the BB gun version, The Baikal MP-654K is not designed to have blowback operation which is understandable as it would be impossible to fabricate this gun so close to the original and still give it blowback operation.

Pros:

  • All Steel construction
  • Made side by side in the factory to the real steel version with same build quality and on same machines.
  • The closest BB gun to a real gun you can get in terms replicating the parts and being made out of the same materials as the real version.
  • Can field strip like the real version.
  • New 2013 version has recessed barrel.
  • New 2013 version has the flush CO2 screw.
  • New 2013 version is the PM style with narrower handle and PM grips.
  • Can filed strip like the real version.
  • Shoots in single and double action.
  • Safety works as a de-cocker.
  • Made in Russia!

Cons:

  • Expensive compared to other airguns.
  • No blowback operation.
  • Only a 13 round magazine.
  • li>Gun requires some breaking time.

Comments:
The new 2013 Blued Baikal MP-654K PM Styled BB Air pistol is one of those must have airguns if you are a collector, sure the price is a lot more than most airgun replicas out there but the 2013 Blued Baikal MP-654K is built like no other airgun. Rather than creating a replica gun around existing airgun parts, Baikal takes a different approach and reworks a real Makarov backwards so it is made to shoot steel BB's using CO2 rather than 9mm rounds. You could say it is a real Makarov but chambered to shoot steel BBs and use CO2. These guns are rarely available in Canada since they often get stuck in customs because they are so realistic. I was actually very surprised when we located a secure that had some that they were willing to give up!

Had High Hopes But...

There are a number of issues with this gun. The slide once caged in the retracted position will not spring forward by depressing the release. The safety does not toggle because it is stuck. The magazine can be ejected inadvertently by the shooting hand because the leaf spring lock is weak. To top it off the trigger will not work in double action and is stiff in single action. Thank-you Replica Airguns for a quick refund.

What can you say

Excellent, The guns are very very stiff when you first get one so I field stripped andsilicon greased the slide and lubed where required. They are as smooth as butterafter awhile and you would not even think it is the same gun.I was shooting Gamo lead bb's but I under stand that Daisy purchased Gamo andI can no longer get them. H + N lead balls seem to be over size and will not go downthe barrel so I now use Copper coated bb's which are more accurate than the lead.My C-rony reads 330 then sits around 298 dropping down from there. Feet per secondwith lead is also much slower than the copper.

Words can not begin to express!!!!

Wow! What a gun! Absolutely immaculate! Beautiful! One thing that I found interesting is that the gun that I got, "felt" different then the one I saw in Michaels video for example: his had a stiff magazine and mine can be put in with one finger, however my safety is nearly impossible to use and at first the slide catch and release was tough but is now smooth and easy!It is bigger and bulkier then what it looks like in the photos. the field stripping at first was confusing but is simpler now.Note: to anybody ordering from the greater Vancouver area you can expect next day arrival because mine arrived the next day and I live in White Rock!

Finally

First off I admit this is not so much a review but more of an exploration of "why?".After about 20 or 30 times watching Michael's review I decided I must purchase this pistol, (I knew I was in serious trouble when one day my sort by price didn't show it in the upper right corner, I almost freaked out)...Anyway, out of the blue it's Christmas evening, I've had my fill of turkey and family (yes those words are mostly interchangeable), so doing what I do I look for a new MK review, or any old one, no matter. Well on this Christmas evening there was a lovely banner at the top of the website - 10% off for Boxing Day. Well hello! Just the incentive I needed, (as my ex-wife used to say, "It's not what you spend, it's what you save"), on Christmas night at about 6 I put in the order, knowing full well that the store was closed on Christmas Day, then all weekend, but forgetting that Canada Post is closed on Monday as well. And there starts the wait. Oh my...I get my shipping notice from RAS with the Canada Post link, (good thing links don't need gun oil, I'd have gone through an awful pile of Hoppe's), an eternity later and kinda unexpectedly the package is in Mississauga, oh rejoice! rejoice! It's almost here... Wait, tomorrow is New Year's eve, it's Canada Post so not much happening after noon that day, oh and of course New Years Day; (honestly I don't think I thought much about my MP654K on New Years Day whist nursing a crappy sparkling wine hangover, (no our hosts didn't spring for Champagne)). So now I only had the weekend to go, (it's not recommended to wish your weekend away when work is looming Monday morning, but I digress).Monday morning dawns crisp (-20 crisp), I check the CP link, it's in transit from Mississauga, set up the email notification, all day nothing. Deep sigh. Tuesday morning, wake up (and yes I checked CP notifications before even submitting to my body's other needs). Oh my, the package has arrived and has been processed in Kingston, and it's on it's way. The Postman arrives (only rings once because I was waiting at the door), he hands me the outer box, he must have thought I was antisocial or he smelled funny the way I marched off.The moment of truth, I think we've all had times were we've anticipated something, (a date, a car, a vacation), were it just never lived up, well spoiler alert: this did.The first things I noticed was: 1 - how tiny the Baikal box was, and 2- how cool it was.I opened it with the reverence of a child on Christmas morning, sharpest blade on the tape, precise in every way. there it was, looking exactly as Mr. Kaye's pictures.Picked it up, the heft exactly as breathlessly described by every reviewer I ever watched. But I come to the point. Why?It's not machined to perfection, (my grip has a nick on one side and a blemish on the other), it is a bear to try to play with, (my thumbs now have biceps after using the safety)...I say that it plays with our emotions simply because of it's connection to humanity, it's not perfect, but it's beautiful, it's not refined, but it does it's job, there are other machines so perfectly made that if this was capable of emotion it might feel shame. But alas there is something about the almost corny colour and font on the box it comes in, the wax paper it's wrapped in, the fact that some person in Russia took the time to stamp the booklet and signoff, it's all just so flawed, but wonderful.Happy 2016 everyone.JamesP.S. - I think about the ink squiggle in the signoff page of my booklet and wonder about him or her, I never wonder about the people who make my perfectly engineered car.

Worth every penny

If your looking for a BB gun that's good quality, you found it! It's not the most accurate gun I'll be honest. But you'll never have to buy another one! quality is outstanding, functionality is fantastic, it looks beautiful, good on CO2 ( I get about 100 shots per cartridge) I'm so glad that I get to have the pleasure of owning one of these.

best gun!

One of the best bb pistols ever built! The 2013 version is extremely rare MP-654K-32, it might not give you speed and power out of the box, but requires some tuning and work to really give you the performance. Couldn't be happier! If possible, please get some parts for tuning for this pistol!

Best BB gun i've ever had, very realistic. Made of russian weapon steel and feels like a real 9mm. Already bought two of them.
