Trigger Pull: Exactly what you would expect from a true single-action 1911 styled pistol. It has a short take-up and a light and crisp pull and release. Because of the similar mechanics like the trigger but also the other aspects of this gun, it would make a truly awesome low cost trainer to be used when your real 1911 is not practical and also to save on the high cost of real .45 shells.

Accuracy: I shot the Colt Commander at a target from 30 feet away in a semi-rested position, and it performed well. I got an 8 shot 1.5 inch grouping, very close to the bullseye that extended a little larger with three additional rounds that came outside the smaller 8 shot grouping. The sights are non-adjustable even though they look like they are, so it was nice to see that this BB pistol was already dialled in pretty good! My initial chrony testing puts this gun right in the 300-325 FPS range, getting a 5 shot average of 306 FPS which is just fine for this style of heavy full realistic blowback action BB shooter. The outside temperature was 22°C (72°F) so the Colt Commander should shoot quicker on a warmer day. You can expect to get three good magazines worth of shots with some extra CO2 leftover for a potential 4th magazine. If you slow your shooting down and let the gun and CO2 warm up between magazines you can get 4 mags with this BB gun for sure.

Build Quality: Like other KWC 1911s, the Umarex Colt Commander is, overall, a well-built and mechanically sound BB pistol. Tolerances are good and the finish may even be better than what KWC makes for their own non-licensed versions of this very popular 1911 series.

Realism: The Umarex Colt Commander BB Pistol is as close as you can get to a real steel 1911 styled .45 semi-auto, but with a slightly modern tactical look to it. The Colt Commander version has the addition of a Tac-style trigger, hammer, and upgraded white dot sights. This gun is nearly all metal with very heavy blowback action that simulates the more sluggish and delayed blowback of a real steel 1911. And the true 1911 single action trigger will not disappoint you either.

Pros:

  • All metal construction gives good weight for a solid feeling gun
  • Heavy blowback action that simulates shooting a 1911 very well
  • Accurate 1911 replica in terms of looks and mechanical aspects
  • Excellently true 1911 single action trigger with smooth and light pull
  • Working safety and grip safety
  • Decent accuracy, good amount of shots for this style of gun at about 3+ good magazines
  • All metal full size dropout magazine that holds the BBs and CO2
  • Nice addition of some tactical features (Tac-style trigger and hammer, white dot sights)
  • Chrome coated barrel and breach not only look nice but wears better

Cons:

  • Sacrificed FPS and shots per CO2 because of the heavy blowback but worth it
  • Not a big fan of the white "S&F" on the safety or the white warning instructions on the slide

Comments: Sure, the Umarex Colt Commander is yet another KWC-made 1911 but Umarex has really captured the classic 1911 style without taking it too far into the tactical realm. The addition of the modernized white dot sights, along with the machined trigger and hammer and the chrome barrel and breach give this blowback 1911 a well-balanced look. If you're looking for a traditional 1911 A1 but with a few modernized tweaks, then check out the Umarex Colt Commander.

Best buy EVER

the description and pictures don't do justice to the gun...when you'll hold the gun in your hand it's a different story, it feats and feels like (almost) a real gun, the blow back is pure unadulterated fun, it's heavy enough (not to light or heavy..just right) must have in any collection. CO2's consumption is not that bad, compared to the fun your getting plus pulling out this one made my buddy drooling

This 1911 model is amazing

I love how durable this pistol is. Easy to take apart and clean or oil it. Great for shooting steel BB's but I actually use this as an airsoft pistol using 117 plastic BB's from this site as well. My only protest against this pistol is that I only have one magazine and they're kinda pricey for another, if you lose one or looking to get another as a backup for battle I believe they're around $50CAD+. Over all - Highly recommended 10/10

Reliability is shockingly poor at best.

As the other reviewers have said the gun looks the part and feels great. It kicks hard and is pretty accurate for a BB gun. The groupings were not bad either. However, after 7 months with the gun, using it around once a week - taking care of it and piling it every 100 or so shots - the gun started to fall apart quite literally. First came the hammer, the “loop” at the top broke off, then another part and now the hammer sits flush in the slide. Then came random screws flying out along side my bbs. Finally the entire loading mechanism (screw, catch, spring...) dropped out of the magazine. The final nail in the coffin, after trying to restore all these pieces, even buying new screw, was a huge leaking issue in the magazine. But hey it looked and felt good.

Perfect

I LOVE this pistol but was confused with the safety until I figured out the hammer has to be pulled back to put it in the safe position

LOVE IT!!!

The Gun is awesome. Heavy, realistic, all metal, you see its quality Shoots great pretty accurate ( don't forget its still a bb gun ). FPS could be higher but for a blowback I do 4 mags of 18 BBS per / CO2 can which is pretty cool. Got a little piece on the right like a metal cylinder always sliding out as the first day I got it.... I was a bit dissapointed about that I had to put black electric tape to hold and hide this thing but it worked. Thats the only turn off I got except that its an everyday fun!

Amazing feel for a BB gun

This gun looks and feel amazing. It's all metal, heavy, the moving parts feel solid and well put together. Giving it a 4 stars as mine was defective and upon putting the CO2 it would only fire intermittently. Now a defective BB gun would have deserve a much lower score but I decided to disassemble the gun and try to find the cause. I used instructions for a real 1911 detailed field strip and I am not talking about just removing the barrel here but the removal of all the tiny parts down to the trigger, hammer etc. Lots of tiny parts. By doing so I realized that most of the gun is made exactly like the real 1911, down to the spring for the hammer and all the parts are match the real one were performing solidly. The part that failed was a tiny spring that would position a small piece of metal that would transfer the force of the hammer to the valve. The spring seemed to have slipped and was not positioning the part properly and it would only fire if the part somehow positioned itself properly. Obviously that piece was not part of the original 1911 design. It basically highlighted how great the engineering of the 1911 is and how close the BB gun is to the real thing. I did enjoy the field strip as I got to know this gun in and out, hence the 4 stars.
