Type: BB Pistol.
Manufacturer: Daisy.
Model: Powerline 340.
Materials: Mostly metal construction.
Weight: 1 Pound (454 grams).
Barrel Length: 4-5 inches
Total Length: 8.5 inches.
Propulsion: Spring
Action: Single action only.
Ammunition Type: 4.5mm steel BB.
Ammunition Capacity: 13/200 round magazine.
Max FPS: 240 fps.

Trigger Pull: The Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol has a single action only trigger. You will have to pull the slide back for each shot as this motion draws the spring back and also cocks the hammer. The trigger pull is fairly decent with about a quarter inch of take-up followed by a light predictable release. There will not be any action shooting since the trigger is not double action and the fact that the slide must be pulled back for each shot.

Accuracy: So far I have not made my Field Test Shooting Video for the Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol but I did take it outside for some good old plinking to see how it would perform causally shooting in the yard. The Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol shot a bit harder than I was expecting it to and I was even able to hit targets a good 50 or so feet away but did have to account for some trajectory arch. Accuracy seemed good in general without a lot of need to adjust my aim point as the sights seemed well centered out of the box which is good since they are not adjustable.

Build Quality: The build quality of the Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol is nothing exciting as it is mostly plastic with a metal barrel and perhaps a few other internal metal parts. Being that the Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol is mostly plastic it only weighs in at about a pound but feels good in the hand. Everything feels pretty solid on the airgun with good overall fit and finish.

Realism: In terms of realism the Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol is a good replica of a Beretta 92 in terms of looks and size comparison. Other than the open slide area that exposes the inner barrel being shorter than a real steel Beretta (probably to accommodate the internal spring) the Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol looks very close to a Beretta 92. Moving parts include the slide, hammer, magazine release and slide catch release which is actually the safety. Even the magazine is drop out and near full size. I also like that there are no perceivable screw holes which is usually the case with these types of low cost all plastic Airguns when they are basically two halves slapped and screwed together.

Pros:

  • Pretty decent replica of a Beretta 92 in general.
  • For an inexpensive Airgun it has a lot of working parts that make it more realistic.
  • Very low cost to buy and operate, no CO2 required.
  • Has a recessed barrel for added realism.
  • Single action only trigger is not overly long or heavy.
  • Lots of ammo stored in the internal hopper so no need for a lot reloading.
  • Safety actually looks like part of the gun built into the slide catch release.
  • Full size dropout magazine.
  • Weight and feel of gun are pretty good considering so much plastic.

Cons:

  • Not super high in the fps department.
  • Need to cock the slide for every shot so not going to be an action shooter.
  • Made in China.

Comments: The Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol is one of those low cost yet kind of fun BB guns that as long as you don’t have super high expectations you will get a ton of fun out of for very little cost. At about $40 Canadian with a bit more for some 4.5mm steel BB’s you are ready to shoot all day long. I was a bit surprised at how decent of a little BB gun the Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol is. It looks real enough, has a decent build quality to it, actually shoots pretty good with a nice trigger and for such a low cost airgun it has a lot going for it like lots of working parts and even a removable full size magazine that doubles as a 200 round hopper with 13 round internal magazine. I don’t think anyone will be disappointed buying the Daisy Powerline 340 Spring BB Pistol and it would make a perfect first BB gun for a younger person looking to get started out in the sport.

Was working well in the beginning, defective a week later

The gun worked well within 7 days of use, but soon after, the slide causes the gun to misfire when cocking the gun. Either releasing the slide from the loaded state or even holding the slide as it returns to its original state causes the gun to fire and loses the ability to be shot. Throughout the 7 days of use, approximately 300 - 400 bb's were shot through this gun. The gun is now in a state where it can not be used to fire safely. Even with the safety on, the slide mechanism will cause a bb to launch and fire randomly. The design of the slide makes it so that the parts are inaccessible to disassemble for assessment or repair.

Wouldn't necessarily recommend it

The summary of this review: this airgun is really cheap, and it shows in the price and quality. I can barely recommend it as an introductory piece because it's so terrible compared to other airguns I've used that it's not even fair to compare it to the others. The build quality is pretty bad, being that it's just a huge lump of plastic that feels like a huge lump of plastic you pulled out of a Dollarama. The slide on mine broke with very little use and I didn't abuse it, it just doesn't work anymore because it jammed and got stuck. Even when it did work, the accuracy was so terrible that you basically need to be right in front of your target to actually hit it, and even then, it'll most likely miss where you were aiming. My biggest pet peeve is that you have to rack the slide with each shot manually, and the spring is so stiff that it takes a considerable amount of force (and I can throw around 55 pound boxes), a kid will have a pretty hard time with it. For the money, it's really not worthwhile. There are better airguns out there for not much more, like Umarex's DX17, which costs 35$, while this costs 26$, and for only 9$ more, it's a much better option.

Type: Air Pistol. Manufacturer: Daisy Model: Powerline Model 617X. Materials: Plastic with some metal parts. Weight: 1.3 pounds (590 grams). Barrel: 4 inches - Metal rifled. Propulsion: 12 gram CO2. Action: Double action only. Ammunition Type: .177 caliber lead pellets & 4.5mm Steel BB's. Ammunition Capacity: 6 round rotary magazine. FPS: 485 fps using steel BB's. I have heard that this Daisy pistol shoots steel 4.5mm BB's at right up around the 500 fps range so even lead pellets should have good velocity out of the Daisy Powerline Model 617X CO2 Pellet-BB Pistol. The single action trigger has a nice medium pull with a very predictable break so as long as the sights are centered on target well, I should expect a nice grouping. If you like the Beretta style of gun, don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a pellet shooting version, than the Daisy Powerline Model 617X CO2 Pellet-BB Pistol should work well for you. The weather has been bad, cold, wet and dark, not conducive for Airgun testing at all but it has been a long time since I got outside to shoot any of my guns and so I braved the storm and setup all my lights and cameras and made a shooting video for you all :) I was really curious about the Daisy CO2 Pellet/BB shooters I made a table top review of just recently, the Daisy Powerline 617X and Daisy Powerline Model 008. So I loaded some fresh CO2, a mag of 7 grain lead pellets and a mag of 4.5mm Steel BB's for each gun and conducted my Chronograph and Target tests accordingly. I shot 5 round of pellets and 5 rounds of steel BB's throughout my Chronograph using the Powerline 617X first and then the Powerline 008 secondly. Both guns performed really close during the chrony section shooting the pellets at close to 400 fps and the steel BB's at just over 400 fps. The Daisy 008 seemed to be releasing more CO2 with each shot because it seemed louder and had more kick, but because of the shorter barrel I did not see an increase in fps over the Daisy 617X. I would image the Daisy 617X will get more shots per CO2 in the long run.
