Trigger Mechanics: The Umarex P99 Compact Clear Spring Airsoft Gun, operating on a single-action-only mechanism, presented a heavier trigger pull than anticipated. Typically, single-action triggers merely release the hammer or striker. The initial take-up is noticeable, followed by a crisp release. The trigger's firmness is due to the necessity of fully racking the slide for spring charging. However, this heavier trigger pull did not hinder my accuracy.

Shooting Accuracy: My experience with the Umarex P99 Compact Clear Spring Airsoft Gun was limited, yet it showed commendable accuracy. Firing at a paper target 20 feet away without support, the gun tended to hit slightly high and left. The 10-shot group was within 44.5 mm (1.75 inches), barring one stray shot. Using .20 g BBs, their velocity appeared to be over 200 FPS, given their swift travel and paper penetration.

Construction Quality: Considering its price point of around $25, the Umarex P99 Compact Clear Spring Airsoft Gun offers reasonable quality. The construction is solid, and the gun feels well-assembled, promising ample usage for its cost.

Authenticity: In terms of design and functionality, the Umarex P99 Compact Clear Spring Airsoft Gun mirrors the Walther P99, complete with official licensing and trademarks. However, its clear plastic composition and bright orange-red tip clearly distinguish it from a real firearm, aligning with its intention to be visibly identified as an airsoft gun.

Pros:

  • Extremely budget-friendly, including an extra magazine and starter BBs.
  • Features full-size, easy-to-handle magazines.
  • Solidly built with snug components and necessary metal reinforcements.
  • Equipped with a rail for mounting accessories.
  • No need for CO2 - operates with airsoft BBs.
  • Officially licensed with Walther trademarks.
  • The slide locks back when the magazine is empty.
  • Integrated hop-up system.
  • Floating barrel design, mimicking the real steel counterpart.
  • Ideal for beginners or those preferring non-realistic airsoft guns.

Cons:

  • Lighter weight at approximately half a pound.
  • Heavier single-action trigger, not suitable for rapid fire.
  • The clear design reduces realism, but enhances safety by differentiating from real firearms.
  • Tends to fire slightly high and to the left.

Comments:

Initially, I had modest expectations for the Umarex P99 Compact Clear Spring Airsoft Gun, given my preference for more sophisticated airguns. However, its functionality and affordability became apparent after some use. It's a perfect entry-level option for new airsoft enthusiasts, particularly for younger audiences or those concerned about the realistic appearance of airsoft guns. The clear design makes it a safe and enjoyable choice for newcomers to the sport.

Excellent spring loaded gun

As you can see in the pics, this is a plastic gun with full metal slide. What I like it's the nice weight and how it stays in hand: it is well balanced. The construction is 'ok', not cheap but of course not the best given the low price. But notice that for a spring loaded, it's fairly expensive, that's because it's quite well made- yet not perfect. I've shoot a lot with this, well over 10,000 shots. You need to use quality plastic bb, not the cheap ones that come with it. I also release manually the slide when the magazine gets empty (pull the slide then depress the trigger, may also unlock the side lock tab) - just take care of it, don't shoot empty. It has troubles with the pin for the magazine release - push it a bit further inside. Downside: the plastic on the handle feels 'cheap' to the touch, should have been softer. The trigger is metal and has exceptional short travel when loaded: it's only a few mm travel to shoot. It's fairly stiff but still get very good accuracy: I would shoot from 20ft with good accuracy and can also shoot from 25-30ft+ but I would need to aim slightly higher to compensate for the drop.
