Type: BB Gun
Manufacturer: Umarex
Model: Legends MP 40
Material: Mostly metal
Weight: 7.7 lb (3.5 kg)
Barrel: 25.4 mm (10 inches), smoothbore
Power Source: 2 x 12 g CO2
Action: Semi/full-automatic
Ammo Type: 4.5mm steel BBs
Ammo Capacity: 52 rounds
FPS: 465

Trigger Pull: The trigger pull on the Umarex Legends MP CO2 BB Submachine Gun is single action only and even though I have seen it tested at around 10 pounds pull, in person it does not feel that heavy and is actually fairly smooth. You will need to charge the bolt for the first shot just like you would on the real steel MP 40.

Accuracy: Like others have reported, you really need to take your time loading the double stack magazine properly or you can have some feeding issues. I added a little bit of dry lubricant to the magazine feeding track. When I performed the accuracy test from my standard 30 foot position I got a very tight 1 inch group shooting in semi auto. A bit high and to the left, but very close to the center bullseye. When I opened up and went full auto the group did largen. The gun rocks back and forth a little with its internal bolt blowback operation, but the remaining 40 rounds mostly stayed within a 2-3 inch grouping.

Build Quality: The gun is pretty much all metal, other than the stock and pistol grip. Pretty much everything that is black is going to be metal on this airgun. It weighs in at a hefty 7.7 pounds which is only a punt off from the real steel version. Overall the fit and finish is really good, all mechanical parts including the retractible stock work flawlessly.

Realism: The Umarex Legends MP is a 1 to 1 replica of the real steel German-made World War II MP 40 machine gun. It is very authentic looking and has very similar operation. The BB version does have the ability to shoot in semi-auto mode — which the real steel version did not — but this is a good feature for saving on CO2 and BBs. It would have been nice if the bolt could lock all the way back and up, but since the movement is shortened this is not possible. Stil, the Umarex Legends MP CO2 BB Submachine Gun is a really nice replica in almost every way.

Pros:

  • Mostly all-metal design with good overall weightSemi and full-auto selectability
  • Dual CO2 design for increased shots and less cool down effect
  • High capacity full size drop out metal magazine
  • Great looking replica of the real steel MP 40 in looks, operation and weight
  • Internal bolt blowback will give a little recoil feedback
  • Adjustable rear sight for shooting at different ranges
  • Price point is reasonable for this type of full size, mostly metal rifle

Cons:

  • Sights are not adjustable for windage
  • Bolt does not go all the way back to the lockout position
  • Some reviewers have noted that a full mag load does not always work well in full auto mode

Comments: When I first got my hand on the Umarex Legends MP CO2 Submachine Gun at this years' SHOT Show, I immediately knew it was going to be a hit. The Umarex Legends MP has a lot going for it... High FPS, semi and full auto, nostalgia of being a war replica, and super great build quality, fit and finish. The question is really who wouldn't want one? Especially being a replica BB rifle, which has to be one of the more limited areas when it comes to airgun replicas. I look forward to shooting this offering from Umarex a little more and sharing my experiences with everyone.

Might scare your neighbours if your using it in full auto, hehe

What can I say, it's all been said if your having problems with the magazine jamming when she's fully loaded just use a dry silicone spray on the empty slide where the bbs go and use umarex ammo because I used my micrometer and measured the bb sizes and the umarex bbs are just over half a tenth of a millimeter larger than the copper coloured copperheads and that makes all the difference! I never had a jam since! It chronyed just over 460 on average with my chrony so that's lots of power and although the sights are fixed my gun is bang on can almost put a bb it the same hole as the last shot without many flyers, and full auto was the most fun I had in a while, she stays accurate even with the bolt blowback jumping all around 1300 shots per minute is the rate of fire I hear so she'll dump the 52 bb clip on less than 3 seconds hahaha, it's great fun don't miss out on getting yourself one and she looks great in the collection! much Love to everyone, and safe shooting!

Temperamental but beautiful

Very nice replica; looks and feels great. The bolt safety does not work as the design does not blow back as far as the real thing, but a combination safety and fire selector switch under the receiver does the job just fine. Sadly the magazine doesn't feed very reliably when full but eventually gets going much as the M3 "Grease Gun". Accuracy is better than the M3 but still a little loose.

Hefty well built BB gun!

I have over 30 BB guns. I honestly think this is the best built one out of them all. I have airsoft guns at this quality but rarely do you see such heavy, well built, sturdy BB machine guns. Thompson legends too comes close but this one beats it in my books.

Wanted to love it, but

Gun was beautiful. Super realistic, with metal construction. Looked amazing. Unfortunately I could not get the magazine to feed bb’s properly. Seems the double stack design, for lack of a better term, doesn’t work. The bb’s load in a zig zag pattern in the magazine, then they are choked to a single row when fed into gun. I understand this was to increase magazine capacity, but mine didn’t work. Fire a couple shots, then nothing. I could sometimes make it work, if I held the gun upside down. Change the magazine design and gun would be awesome.

Umarex MP40

I received promptly my MP40.. It is a real fun to shoot with... However when I tried Crosman Copperhead bbs, I had problem with the magazin not feeding properly. I use now Umarex stell bbs only and all is o.k. Is it normal? Charles Coache, Mirabel, Quebec

German Legends MP 40

Another of my you just don't want to put it down or away beauties. Accurate in semi or fully auto. Vicious, but serious shooters will learn quickly to handle it's rate of fire.

MP40 REPLICA OUTSTANDING!

I always remember BEN GAZZARA as an American GI, toting an MP40 in the 1969 film: THE BRIDGE AT REMAGEN, with it being his weapon of choice. A friend of mine has a real MP40 that his Dad brought back from WW2 and setting them side by side, shows how remarkable this "COPY" is. The accuracy is quite good considering it's not a target rifle. At 35 feet, I managed a couple of 3" - 4" groups firing in the Single Shot mode and could likely do better with serious concentration, But, as this isn't made for bench rest shooting, just select FULL AUTO and have a whole bunch of FUN!!
