Ammo Capacity: 15 rounds
FPS: 200

Trigger Pull: The single action only trigger pull on the Umarex DX17 spring powered BB pistol is actually pretty good. It's fairly short with only a little bit of very light take up and then an easy release that has no added friction. So you will have to get used to when and where the release happens but it is a really decent trigger for such an inexpensive airgun.

Accuracy: I have only shot the DX17 a few times to get used to the mechanical operation of using this spring powered pistol, since there is a very specific order in which you need to cock and load the gun for proper operation. I did find the DX17 shot a bit high for me at 30 feet out so I had to adjust my aim point about 5-6 inches lower to hit targets at this range. For further out shooting you many not need to do so since the FPS is fairly low and I would expect the BB to drop pretty quickly. In terms of power, being that the Umarex DX17 is only rated at 200fps, well it seems sufficient enough for plinking away at targets and should have no problem getting through a pop can.

Build Quality: I was expecting this low cost BB airgun to be fairly low quality in general but when I took it out of the plastic clamshell packaging I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality and how the it felt in my hand. The gun has a good weight to it and the fit and finish are really good. Mechanical parts tolerances feel snug and the plastic feels of good quality.

Realism: As far as I know, the DX17 is not a replica of any specific real steel gun in production but it does kind of remind me of a Browning Hi-power. At least the back half and the way the frame angles up a bit in front of the trigger. Other than that it looks the part of a real gun. The DX17 has what looks like real working parts on it with the slide catch, magazine release and magazine butt plate all moulded into the airgun.

Pros:

  • It actually looks and feels pretty good in person, better than expected build quality and weight
  • No CO2 required so very cheap to shoot
  • Single action trigger is really decent, better than most airguns
  • Accessory rail for adding a red dot or tactical light
  • 15 round reservoir makes follow-up shots quicker, with no fumbling around loading BBs in-between shots.
  • Lower FPS means if you do do something stupid you are less likely to have to make a trip to the doctor
  • Perfect option for casual backyard plinking
  • Comes at a great price

Cons:

  • Pretty low FPS so don’t expect any long range shooting or great penetration.
  • Sights are not adjustable and it seems to shoot kind of high.
  • Why not rifle the barrel and make pellets an option?

Comments: I rarely review these super low cost airguns, especially spring powered ones with low FPS, it almost seems like why would you want any of that? But, you know, the Umarex DX17 Spring BB Pistol is actually a great little airgun and you really can't beat the price tag. You are also going to save a bunch of money not having to buy CO2 and once you load 15 rounds into the BB reservoir you can empty the DX17 fairly quickly. Sure the power seems a bit low but it gets the job done and if there is an accident you are less likely to break that window or require medical attention. I think this would be a great add on to your order, that way you wouldn't have to pay for shipping for this one item and you get a fun little plinker for just a few dollars more.

Best plinker for the price

I have put 200 rounds through it so far and it does shoot just a little high. I shoot at 20 feet and it's pretty dead on after I adjust my aim for the high shots. The slide piston was tight at first but after 200 rounds is pretty smooth, the safety works and it's easy to load using a homemade straw speed loader. It is a fun low cost, low velocity indoor or outdoor plinker.

Warning to Everyone

Whoever wants to buy this product and are hesitating due to bad reviews, don't read them. People are leaving reviews such as "shoots slow and falls in front of you" as well as "feels like plastic toy." These people absolutely cannot take their time to read the product description which states it goes at around 200 FPS and is mostly plastic built. I encourage everyone to buy this awesome replica if you feel that, after consulting the product description, it's good for you.

good value

Sights are not adjustable so you just have to adjust your point of aim. You have to be careful not to drop BBs inside the gun while loading the hopper, If you do get any BBs inside the gun make sure you shake them out before trying to shoot the gun.

Great gun for the price.

Compared to a lot of other spring powered guns, this one does fall short in the power and accuracy department. However, in terms of the price, and the ability to load 15 pellets at once, this thing is really good! Pros: Highly affordable, feels good in your hands, lightweight but not light enough to cause a lot of recoil, doesn't jam or fail to fire (I've fired at least 200+ shots through it so far), good sight, and the ammo it takes is reusable. Cons: The power is low, which in turn means that pellets can ricochet around and hit the user or someone else, or damage something. The loading operation is a bit weird at first, and the slide pullback is a little stiff, but it might just be the one I got. The accuracy is kinda bad at longer ranges, which means that you have to either predict where the shot is going to travel, or just stick to close range, which is what I do. All in all, it's a fun little gun that looks and feels real too. For the price, you can't really beat it. 15 shot bb pistol that doesn't take CO2? Yes please! Just don't shoot at tough targets. Use thin cardboard, paper, or Styrofoam. And when I say thin cardboard, I mean quite thin. I tried shooting at an amazon delivery box with this gun, and the first pellet bounced right off, while the second got stuck on the side, and that was at very close range. Be careful.
